As the sun set over Adelaide town on July 15, gamers from all over the country were congregating over at St Clair Recreation centre for the final hurrah of Australia’s biggest gaming LAN!

As the doors opened, a bustle of people started to fill the complex – the place was soon to be filled! The COD4 5v5 competition was due to begin at 8pm, so most of the teams began to try and develop that ever elusive LAN sharpness before they had to take to the field. The teams of note, AuRa, Conquer and Fragonauts were clearly out for blood, wasting no time setting up their rigs and preparing to frag.

Fragonauts – LTR: Framed, vlad, b0b, Moose, Conkaa

Conquer – LTR: oxen, Inept, Gottz.

The night started off in typical LAN fashion, many of the casual teams being beaten to a pulp by the more serious teams; auRa, Conquer and Fragonauts posting 13-0 and 13-1 results up until the more competitive teams were met.
MF.TV coverage of many of the games was provided, and I had a great opportunity to put faces to a lot of the names that I had encountered on CG, with friendships being forged and renewed by many of the players.

Things started to slow down with the conclusion of the SnD comp, with AuRa taking the final bo3 in convincing style against Fragonauts. a lot of players opting to play some other games, play a couple games of indoor soccer, or just catch some shut-eye! Little did we know that at that time, Adelaide was experiencing its worst cold snap since 1978, with temperatures dipping as low as 2° at the complex!

Resorting to less conventional measures to keep warm - Gottz, Nurpz and Oxen (CQR) as well as myself huddle up under beanbags and sleeping bags in an attempt to stop the shivers!

Day 2 of the event saw the announcementof the COD4 TDM competition, where the players who had bared the previous night’s cold had the opportunity to split into teams of 3 and battle it out for a few more goodies! Highlight games of this competition included Fragonauts (b0b, Moose & Conkaa) slowly but surely outpoking FAGonauts (Wenzy, vlad-, Uber) on the map of crossfire and auRa taking out the competition, yet again triumphing against a resurgent Fragonauts squad.

Day 2 also saw the debut of MF’s new acquisition, Quake Live player Peter “Ventz” Kidson on the LAN scene for MF. Ventz fragged solidly all day, even managing to oust Archaic’s Dandaking in a group stage nailbiter, scoring 15-13. The semifinals saw Ventz go up against fellow Team Razer member Zlr (Vox Eminor) where Ventz played a fantastic first map, taking it to overtime and winning 7-4. Zlr brought the next map back 3-2 with a frag in the last 10 seconds of the match. However, the determined Ventz fragged up a storm, winning the next two maps more comfortably (14-4, 12-7) to earn himself a spot in the finals, a rematch with Archaic’s Dandaking.

Ventz really drove himself to succeed in the grand final, but Dan was too good; Ventz losing the final 3-0 with some heartbreakingly close map losses to clinch a very respectable second place in the 4SG QL Reloaded competition.

Dont forget to check out MF.TV’s VOD coverage of the event; some games definitely worth seeing! A massive thankyou to the organisers over at Reloaded LAN for once again putting in a fantastic event. Also thanks to our sponsors Razer, AMD Enuzi and IPGN for their continued support. Look out for more action from MF.TV and the MF.COD4 team at the MF LAN in Melbourne on the 30th of July!

In the meantime, keep those frags coming!
